If you’ve checked out our client list lately, you know we have tons of experience creating websites for colleges and universities across the country, from California all the way to our own backyard in Cambridge. But it’s always especially cool when we work with higher education institutions from which some of us happen to be alumni.
Nothing brings us back to our college years quite like creating a new website for an alma mater, though we’re happy to leave out final exams and weird roommate experiences this time around. As it would happen, we have quite a few Huskies among us, graduates of Northeastern University who were excited to have a hand in creating a new site for the College of Engineering.
Looking to show prospective students why it’s ranked as a top engineering college, the College of Engineering at Northeastern University wanted a website redesign that showcased the benefits of their distinctive approach to education and research while offering an improved user experience, particularly on mobile devices.
The College’s recently launched website features a new information architecture and visual design which work together to give content a consistent structure and presentation across the College’s five departments, all under a single URL. This, along with a responsive design, improved the overall user experience as well as the user experience for visitors on mobile devices.
Also, to encourage engagement among the campus community, the College of Engineering included a feature that allows any user across the university to submit content for the site when logged in.
