Boston’s Best Conferences for Web Designers and Developers

July 14, 2014

Boston is chock-full of incredibly talented web designers, developers, and digital marketers always looking to expand their knowledge and network with their peers. The city offers a vibrant community for digital professionals, from various groups that suit one’s interests to great conferences, camps, and events with high-profile industry experts. There are so many opportunities to develop new skills and learn from others, so we’ve compiled a list of local “must attend” events to add to your annual list.

Web Designers

While these events are great for web designers, they also draw web developers, sometimes in equal measure. The agendas are designed such that both groups get the most out of the sessions and speakers.

An Event Apart
Billed as an event “For People who Make Websites,” this conference makes an annual visit to Boston and is a must attend for industry professionals. It offers an opportunity for people involved in the web design process to share ideas and inspiration while networking and expanding their knowledge base.

Design4Drupal
Held at MIT’s Stata Center, Design for Drupal is an annual web design camp covering all aspects of design, UX, and theming for Drupal websites. The event brings together attendees to share ideas, gather design inspiration, and learn new techniques for Drupal design and theme development.

UXPA Boston
While this year’s event has passed, this is one that user experience designers have on their calendar each year. The event is held annual and organized by the Boston Chapter of the User Experience Professionals’ Association.

Web Developers

NERD Summit
The New England Regional Digital Summit is a free three-day conference that includes talks, workshops, coding challenges, and more. The event is focused on contributing not only to Drupal, but to PHP in general and features various session tracks and keynotes by well-known industry experts.

New England Drupal Camp
In this, its inaugural year, NEWD Camp seeks to bring together the New England Drupal community to educate and share with each other. And with a quirky camp name to rival the likes of those held in other cities, NEWD Camp promises to be a fun event with plenty of learning and networking.

The Ultimate Developer Event
This one-day conference for developers is focused on re-thinking how applications are built and teaching the tools and skills necessary to ensure apps can run on or connect to whatever new devices or platforms the future brings. Attendees will explore the newest technologies and techniques in sessions that cover future-focused subject matter.

Digital Marketing Professionals

INBOUND Conference
Boasting keynote speakers like Martha Stewart and David Meerman Scott, Hubspot’s INBOUND conference is Boston’s must-attend event for sales and marketing professionals. The conference aims to provide the inspiration, education, and connections necessary to transform a business through keynotes, innovative talks, educational breakouts, hands-on lessons, and networking.

FutureM
Presented by MITX, FutureM brings together marketing and technology innovators to contemplate and celebrate the future of marketing. The event focuses on the integration of traditional marketing, digital marketing, R&D, product development, and all other parts of an organization that impact customer engagement and purchasing decisions.

Inbound Marketing Summit
The IMS Boston conference strives to create a community, attracting a core group of Web, social, and content marketing visionaries, influencers, and attendees to network, share ideas, keynotes, and cases studies. It encompasses all things digital – from social media marketing, to executing mobile marketing campaigns, to web publishing.
